A flower is exotic when it possess unusual traits, is rare or only occurs in certain parts of the world. They vary in color, size, shape, scent and some even have differing characteristics, making them exotic and worth learning about.
Endemic Species
Species of flowers that are endemic to a region only occur in that particular region. These exotic flowers include wooly ragwort,native to the Falklands, and a marigold that hails from Madeira Archipelago.
Rare or Endangered
Rare or endangered plants are exotic either due to their scarceness or vulnerability. Some rare or endangered flowers include the black spider-like bat flower, field poppy and corncockle.
Unusual or Odd
Some exotic flowers are exotic simply because they are just plain odd. One ideal example of an unusual exotic flower is the carrion flower. The carrion flower blooms only once every few years, and when it does it smells of rotting flesh to attract insects for sustenance.
